How to use this tool

Color Palette Extractor: Stay on the first tab, drag and drop any image onto the upload zone β€” or click it to browse your files. The tool reads pixel data directly in your browser and extracts six dominant colors. No image is ever sent to a server.

Color Name to Hex: Switch to the second tab and type any descriptive color name β€” "dusty rose", "sage green", "terracotta", and so on. Matching colors appear as you type. Click the chip shortcuts to explore popular editorial palette names.

Click Copy hex on any color card to copy that code, or use Copy all hex to grab the full palette as a comma-separated list.

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs entirely inside your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device.

How does the color extraction work?

The tool reads raw pixel data from your image using an HTML5 Canvas, samples a representative subset of pixels, then uses a Median Cut algorithm to partition the color space into clusters. The average color of each cluster becomes one entry in your palette.

What color names does the lookup support?

The database includes over 150 entries β€” from standard web colors to editorial names used in Etsy shops, print-on-demand design, and interior decor: dusty rose, sage green, terracotta, taupe, champagne, celadon, and many more.

What image formats are supported?

Any format your browser can display: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, and AVIF. Processing is entirely local so there is no server-side format restriction.

Is this tool free?

Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no account, no usage limit.
